The Gonorrhoea Rapid Test is an antigen test which tests directly for the presence of the gonorrhoea bacteria (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) in the human body.
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhoea is one of the most common infectious bacterial diseases and is most frequently transmitted during sexual intercourse, including vaginal, oral and anal sex. In women, Gonorrhoea is a common cause of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can lead to internal abscesses and long-lasting, chronic pelvic pain. PID can damage the fallopian tubes enough to cause infertility or increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

TEST PRINCIPLE

Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Ag Test is a qualitative membrane strip-based immunoassay for the detection of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae antigen directly from cervix or penis swab specimens. In this test procedure, anti- Gonorrhoeae antibody is immobilized in the test line region of the device. After a specimen is placed in the specimen well, it reacts with anti- Gonorrhoeae antibody coated particles that have been applied to the specimen pad. This mixture migrates chromatographically along the length of the test strip and interacts with the immobilized anti- Gonorrhoeae antibody. If the specimen contains Neisseria Gonorrhoeae antigen, a coloured line will appear in the test line region indicating a positive result. If the specimen does not contain Neisseria Gonorrhoeae antigen, a coloured line will not appear in this region indicating a negative result. To serve as a procedural control, a coloured line will always appear at the control line region indicating that proper volume of specimen has been added and membrane wicking has occurred.
